St. Giles's Cathedral

Cathedral This is the spiritual heart of the Church of Scotland. A church has existed on this site since the 9th century, and parts of this building date from 1120. Since then, many alterations have changed the building immensely. Scottish religious reformer John Knox, who established the Protestant religion in Scotland, became the minister here in 1560. The unusual main spire is in the form of a thistle, one of the symbols of Scotland.
