Swain's Lane divides London's Highgate Cemetery in two. The old, overgrown "Egyptian" west side filled up years ago and is now accessible only by guided tour. The most famous resident of the east side of Karl Marx, whose grave is topped by a huge bust the Chinese government helps pay for its upkeep. Highgate is still an active burial ground and its keepers have asked that you to make advance arrangements to visit it. Tours are usually scheduled daily, year around; phone for times and reservations.
